Kai Trump will have numerous prominent supporters as she begins her LPGA debut on Thursday.

The 18-year-old athlete, who happens to be related to a former US president, obtained a special exemption to play at Florida's Annika event in the Sunshine State.

The former president, someone who loves golf, owns numerous courses worldwide and often matches against his granddaughter.

"He's quite skilled. I shouldn't elaborate but we play some close matches," she revealed.

She mentioned that her grandfather, who cannot attend, told her: "Just stay calm."

"My grandpa practically suggested to compete and enjoy myself," she explained.

"In my eyes, he's just a regular grandfather. He's not attending this weekend. He's focused on world affairs, making him rather occupied."

As an amateur, the golfer has played in only three events recently and has the 461st position in the American Junior Golf Association standings.

Yet she can seek guidance from golf legend, romantically involved with Kai's mother.

"He represents the greatest golfer worldwide," Kai expressed.

"Furthermore, he's a superior person. He suggested me to compete, enjoy myself, and go with whatever happens."

Kai will face some of the biggest names in women's golf at the competition, such as world number two Nelly Korda, England's Charley Hull, professional Thompson and 2023 champion champion Vu.

Tournament organizers stated that Kai's presence helps introduce golf to different demographics, particularly reaching the next generation.

The social media influencer boasts a massive following and recently launched her own clothing and lifestyle label.

The competition starts at 17:30 GMT.
