The Actress States Mentioning Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out against the Trump administration, fearing it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and deepen rifts throughout the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Lawrence
During a discussion, Lawrence reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence in any way on voter decisions.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing contenders over the years. Raised by conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and revealing she understood during the Obama era that backing conservatives was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she stated that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by his election win.
“The second term seems distinct,” noted the actress of his leadership. “Because he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in a remote area. Speaking at a interview session for the film in the film festival, she spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Additional Thoughts
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor aimed to shift frustration about the conflict to leaders rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration endorsed by numerous entertainment industry figures to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in the new film. While Lynne Ramsay has denied the story being seen as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, Lawrence said that she identified with aspects of her role’s experience after the delivery of her new baby, soon after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I used it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also spoke about the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
