The Israeli Premier League rivalry match involving one local team and Hapoel Tel Aviv was abandoned ahead of commencement on the weekend, due to what authorities labeled as "public disorder and violent riots".
"Dozens of smoke grenades and pyrotechnic devices were set off," law enforcement stated on online platforms, adding "this isn't a sporting event, it represents unrest and significant aggression".
A dozen civilians and several police personnel were injured, officials confirmed, while multiple persons were arrested and sixteen questioned by police.
The clashes occur just a short time after representatives in the UK announced that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ought to be banned to go to the Europa League match at the Birmingham team in England in November because of public safety worries.
One team condemned the derby cancellation, alleging authorities of "preparing for a war, instead of a sporting event", even during talks in the build-up to the much-expected fixture.
"The alarming events outside the venue and due to the irresponsible and scandalous judgment to cancel the game only prove that the law enforcement has assumed command over the sport," the team announced publicly.
The other team has remained silent, except to confirm the fixture was abandoned.
The decision by Birmingham's Safety Advisory Group to prohibit club followers from the Birmingham game on the sixth of November has triggered widespread criticism.
The UK government has later announced it is working to overturn the ban and exploring what extra measures might be necessary to make certain the fixture can be hosted safely.
Villa informed their security personnel that they could choose not to participate at the fixture, stating they recognized that some "may have concerns".
On earlier in the week, West Midlands Police said it endorsed the restriction and designated the game as "potentially dangerous" due to information and earlier occurrences.
That encompassed "serious fights and discrimination incidents" involving Ajax and their supporters ahead of a match in Amsterdam in late 2024, when numerous persons were taken into custody.
There have been rallies at several athletic competitions concerning the situation in Gaza, for instance when Israel played the Scandinavian team and the European team in recent international matches.
