The most severe potential impacts of the global heating for the UK have been mapped by researchers, including a blistering 4C increase in average temperatures to a two-metre rise in ocean levels. An alternative projection envisions a drop of 6C in temperatures following the shutdown of critical Atlantic Ocean currents, which would profoundly upset agriculture and energy needs.

Another collection of worst-case scenarios sets out the possible scale of harsh climate between now and the end of the century. These show that thermometer readings could skyrocket in some months by up to 6C above historical levels, while rainfall could be 300% of standard measurements.
The chance of the catastrophic events occurring remains uncertain due to unknown factors about what steps will be enacted to combat global heating and how the planet's climate will behave. This approach was compared to security threat evaluations or resilience checks for economic stability.

- Severe Heating: Global temperatures exceeding 4C by 2100 could transpire if international cooperation collapses or if powerful amplifying effects including the tropical forests dying release its vast reserves of carbon. This would cause severe and lengthy heat domes and droughts hitting the UK in summer.
- AMOC Shutdown: A key circulation system, the North Atlantic current, is slowing down and becoming unstable due to global heating.
