President Trump Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
White House Offer
The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of her former high school, told the press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and cease granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” he told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
