Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just seven months following instigating disrespectful taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting offensive chants about Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous History Between Bamford & the Manager
Both men had a past prior to Leeds moved up to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Career Struggles
