Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'Yet Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court learned phone records and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most publicized investigations and is still unsolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another phone message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine was, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a living here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The jury was informed that by means of emails, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a DNA test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with the police force who compiled the data, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will persist and I will prove my position."
The court heard the co-defendant struck up a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in that area in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to state the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be treated respectfully in the months preceding the trip to Rothley, Leicestershire, in December 2024.
The court was told message exchanges between the two accused, in last November, planning attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We have to take action," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their house, the defendant transmitted a communication which expressed: "We're currently sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our headlights off resembling private investigators. I desired to do this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The case proceeds.
